Stanton County EMA Requested for Mutual Aid in Burt County

On December 20, Stanton County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) was requested to assist with a search and rescue operation in Burt County. Burt County officials requested support in drone operations and deployment of Stanton County EMA’s rapid response trailer, which was utilized as a command post. Stanton County EMA also provided personnel and a utility side-by-side vehicle to assist with ground search efforts.

In addition to Stanton County EMA, emergency management personnel were requested from Dakota, Wayne, Cedar, Thurston, and Knox Counties. Stanton County EMA worked in coordination with the Burt County Sheriff’s Office, the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, and the Nebraska State Patrol Air Wing to provide communications support and thermal drone imaging capabilities in support of the operation.

From the Office of the Burt County Sheriff’s Office:

"It is with a heavy heart that we announce that the search has been concluded. Jack Dunning was located at approximately 1:00pm Sunday. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family. We appreciate all of the outpouring of help we received. We had over 150 people, plus multiple agencies, including drones, helicopters, and airplanes."

Stanton County EMA extends its condolences to the family and loved ones affected by this incident and appreciates the professionalism and cooperation demonstrated by all responding agencies during this coordinated multi-jurisdictional response.
